Apofriendia Imagination Friendly Abstract Art

Where… You Are the Co-Creator

What is your brain seeing when your eyes look at this painting ?

Take a moment to look before reading further…

"Listening To The Teller" is a 12"x16" Acrylic on Canvas Panel that was Painted in Sept 2015 and is an excellent example of Apofriendia.

Engaging the “Subconscious Reflex” (What the Mind Sees)

Apofriendia attempts to create a curated visual sandbox, in which the viewer’s brain immediately goes to work attempting to decode the patterns.  The longer one looks, the more images will slowly “creep” onto the scene:

What Someone Saw

The Skeletal or Macabre Topography: In the lower right and center-left, rows of pale, repeating shapes strongly mimic teeth, jawbones, or exposed rib cages.

The Hidden Observers: On the far upper-right edge, a pale, ghostly visage or mask-like face seems to form out of the swirling purple and blue background, looking inward across the canvas.

An Architectural Landscape: The sweeping blue lines at the top left mimic heavy rainfall, a waterfall, or long, windswept hair draping down into a chaotic valley of reaching hands or roots.

It is a deeply captivating and rhythmic composition that keeps the eye moving, refusing to let the viewer get locked onto just one singular image.

What the artist thought he saw… after he finished the painting.

In this painting, which is titled “Listening To The Teller,” I am seeing a dark night. Like camping, or some gathering of friends, sitting around a fire with it’s glow that diminished into the darkness. Maybe someone is telling scary stories or old legends. The tale becomes almost alive in the darkness, crackling fire, drama and shadows of the atmosphere.
If you let your mind go, it can create quite a story and backdrop. Aprofriendia art invites you to come play in this curated sandbox and have fun.

What do you see?
There are no right or wrong answers.

Apofriendia begins the exact moment the artists brush hits the canvas without an objective plan, trusting that the human mind is intuitively wired to find meaning in the chaos that is being structuring.

It ends when a viewer stands in front of it, connects a hidden silhouette to their own lived experience, and brings their own story to the piece. If an artwork demands that the viewer think only about what the artist was thinking, the Apofriendia loop is broken.
